Clients want their hair to look natural and healthier when they color it. ONC artofcolor is perfect for this, with its original colors, healthier ingredients, and organic plant extracts.
It is natural like hair. Working inside the hair shaft, complementing the hair’s structure. ONC artofcolor is not a “paint” or outside coating. It is an oxidative permanent hair color dye. And does not contain ammonia, any of its byproducts, or resorcinol. Its pH is only 8.5!
ONC artofcolor is oil-based. Soya and wheat oils are its main ingredients. They support color change and protect the hair’s structure. Thanks to these oils, it is like a gel. It is easy and economic to use. It is easy to purify.
There are 60 intermixable shades for infinite color combinations. It provides perfect gray hair coverage. It lightens virgin hair color up to 4 levels.
ONC artofcolor has a low pH and is ammonia-free. When coloring gray hair and lightening virgin hair, process with 122ºF heat for 15 minutes to open the cuticle. You do not need to use heat when you color previously treated sections.

ONC artofcolor best practice
Colorists should note some important points before using ONC artofcolor. These can affect the results of their color service.
Use heat
Chemical hair colors have harsh chemicals and a high pH. Using chemicals and a high pH to open the hair cuticle and force color in to the hair is damaging to the client’s hair and scalp, and everyone’s health.
ONC artofcolor pH is very low. It cannot open the hair cuticle with a high pH like chemical colors. Instead, ONC artofcolor uses heat to open the cuticle and penetrate the color. Heat opens the cuticles of the hair in the same way as a sauna opens the pores of your skin. There is no itch and no damage to the hair or scalp. This is a much healthier approach than traditional chemical color, for the client’s hair and scalp, and everyone’s health!
Before use
Hair colors may cause allergic reactions. Temporary black henna tattoos may increase the risk of allergy.
It is important to make a preliminary test 48 hours before coloring. Use the shade the client has chosen to make the preliminary test.
Preliminary test
- Make a mix of 0.17 fl. oz. of the color chosen and 0.17 fl. oz. of developer (20 vol.).
- Put a small amount of mix behind the ear or on the inside crease of the elbow with a brush.
- Leave for 30 minutes. Cleanse with cotton after 30 minutes.
- Leave the test area for 48 hours without washing and look for any reaction. If there are no reactions, it is safe to use the same color on the client’s hair. If there are any reactions such as itching, redness or swelling in or around the test area, cleanse it, and do not use the color on the client’s hair.
Do not use on clients who have allergies to oxidative hair coloring products.
The hair must be free and clean of styling products (i.e. gels, waxes, coloring sprays etc.). These products can stop the color from working properly. Shampoo hair, but do NOT use conditioner.
Preparation
Decide on the amount of color needed. Mix the color and developer in a glass or plastic bowl and use with a brush. Lay the color on; swiping up and down is unnecessary.
Coloring tips
Assess has the hair been treated with chemicals before, coarseness of hair, length of hair, how much gray hair, cleanliness of hair, has the client made a good choice of color, do they have any skin sensitivity?
- Assess the client’s wishes and their hair’s condition
- Confirm how much gray hair and where most of it is
- Check how well the client’s choice of color fits with their skin tone and advise the client
- Study the hair structure, condition and/or damage to the hair and its fineness / coarseness
- Consider the length of their hair
- Shampoo to clean the hair of residues of wax, spray or color sprays before using the color
- Decide where to start coloring by the condition of the hair and the color
Notes from our technical director
- ONC artofcolor tends to be slightly lighter than a lot of hair color dye, so mix a half level darker than you would normally, e.g. if you use 7-00, use half 7NN and half 6NN
- Mix developer and color in equal parts (1:1) for 1-10 shades, e.g. 1.7 fl. oz. of color + 1.7 fl. oz. of developer
- For the high lift series, (11: HN, HS and HA shades) use more developer by up to 50%, e.g. 1.4 fl. oz. of color + 2.8 fl. oz. of developer
- It is important to use plenty of hair color dye on every section. It is important to saturate the roots. Lay the color on. Do not brush in to the hair. Swiping up and down is unnecessary and can remove the color from the hair
- After putting on the roots, wrap the hair in plastic wrap (or use a plastic cap and thermal heat cap) and process with 122ºF heat for 15 minutes. Use a fresh mix of color on mid-shaft and ends. Process for a further 25 minutes. Do not use heat on the mid-shaft and ends
- Porous ends will take more color. You will need to mix slightly lighter for ends
- It is important to use all of the mixture within 20 minutes. If you cannot apply the color to all of the regrowth in 20 minutes, it is best to mix half of your formulation and use, then mix the other half and use

High lift shades
ONC artofcolor 11 Series is for lightening. These shades lighten virgin hair up to 4 levels. Make with 1:2 formulas, e.g. 1.4 fl. oz. of 11 HA + 2.8 fl. oz. of 40 vol. developer.
The pH of 11 Series is higher, so there is more risk these may be irritant. Do not use on sensitive scalps. High Lift shades will not cover gray hair.
Use 11 HN, 11HS and 11 HA for lightening virgin hair up to 4 levels and for foil highlighting.
Use 11 Series color and 30-40 vol. developer with a 1:2 formula for natural color. Do not use heat. Processing time is 50 minutes.
Which developer for which lightening level?
- 30 vol. (9%): to lighten virgin hair 2-3 levels
- 40 vol. (12%): to lighten virgin hair 3-4 levels
Concentrates
Concentrates are specific intensifier shades. Use these to intensify shades. Each has a different color concentration. Add up to half of the amount of the natural shade with the concentrate color, e.g. 1 fl. oz. of main color + 0.5 fl. oz. of concentrate. Blue concentrate is level 3, so realize it may slightly darken the result. Typically, add less blue concentrate.

- Be sure hair is clean and dry
- Mix the Color Gel and Developer in a bowl for best results
- Adjust the color mix for coarse or resistant hair 2:1 (Color Gel : Developer)
- Mix first to treat the roots and be sure to pat the hair while applying rather than painting the color on to the hair with brushstrokes. Then mix again for the rest of the hair
- Use Color Gel and Developer immediately after mixing to limit oxidation
- Emulsify/massage color that is already on the hair with warm water for 2 minutes before shampooing (helps more color into the hair)
- Shampoo and condition only after emulsifying. As our colors do not have the chemical glue other colors have

Basic coloring / for hair that has been colored before
Create natural, brown, red, blonde and ash shades with ONC artofcolor.
- Mix color in equal parts (1:1) with developer for all colors between 1 and 10, e.g. 1.7 fl. oz. of color + 1.7 fl. oz. of developer. When using the color mix, always use on regrowth first, wrap hair in plastic wrap (or use a plastic cap and thermal heat cap) and process with 122ºF heat for 10 minutes for FINE hair / 20 minutes for hair that is COARSE and RESISTANT. Take the plastic cap off. DO NOT WASH OR RINSE.
- Next, use a fresh mix of color on the mid-shaft and ends. DO NOT COVER OR USE HEAT. Allow all of the color to process for an additional 25 minutes for FINE / 35 minutes for COARSE and RESISTANT hair.
TOTAL COLOR PROCESSING TIME: 35-55 MINUTES (10-20 MINUTES FOR ROOTS + 25-35 MINUTES FOR ROOTS AND THE REST OF THE HAIR. THE ROOTS ARE PROCESSED 10-20 MINUTES LONGER THAN THE REST OF THE HAIR).
Before shampooing. Add a little warm water to the hair and massage for 4 minutes. Emulsifying the color while the hair cuticles are open helps “push” in a little more color. Use the right ONC color-safe, SLS-free, paraben-free, low pH shampoo and follow with ONC color-safe, SLS-free, paraben-free, low pH conditioner, which balances the pH and closes the cuticle. Leave the conditioner on for 5 minutes.
Do not use heat when darkening highlighted, bleached or high lifted hair.
Coloring virgin hair / for hair that has not been colored before
Two different ways to color virgin hair:
1.
Use the desired formula on the mid-shaft and ends quickly, leaving 1 inch free at the roots. Then wrap the hair in plastic wrap (or use a plastic cap and thermal heat cap) and process with 122ºF heat for 10 minutes. Stop the heat DO NOT WASH OR RINSE and use the same formula on the roots. Wrap hair in plastic wrap (or use a plastic cap and thermal heat cap) and process with 122ºF heat for 10 minutes. Then stop the heat and unwrap the hair. Process for an additional 20 minutes without heat or plastic wrap (or a plastic cap).
TOTAL COLOR PROCESSING TIME: 40 MINUTES (10 MINUTES FOR THE REST OF THE HAIR + 10 MINUTES FOR THE REST OF THE HAIR AND ROOTS + 20 MINUTES FOR THE REST OF THE HAIR AND ROOTS NATURALLY - WITHOUT HEAT. THE ROOTS ARE PROCESSED 10 MINUTES LESS THAN THE REST OF THE HAIR).

Wrap hair in plastic wrap (or use a plastic cap and thermal heat cap) and process with 122ºF heat for 10 minutes. Then stop the heat and unwrap the hair. Process for an additional 30 minutes without heat or plastic wrap (or a plastic cap).
TOTAL COLOR PROCESSING TIME: 40 MINUTES (10 MINUTES FOR ROOTS AND THE REST OF THE HAIR WITH HEAT. 30 MINUTES FOR ROOTS AND THE REST OF THE HAIR NATURALLY - WITHOUT HEAT).

Gray hair and fashion shades
When formulating for gray coverage, always mix a fashion shade with a natural shade. This includes the AH series. Use NN series (4 NN, 5 NN, 6 NN, 7 NN, and 8 NN) for better gray coverage on coarse and resistant hair. It is more difficult to cover gray, so study the hair well. Shampoo residues of wax, spray or color sprays out of the hair before coloring.
To remove unwanted warmth from color, add several drops of blue concentrate to your formula. You can also use the ash mix. Or you can use both. Blue concentrate is a level 3, so realize it may slightly darken your formula. The ash mix is much lighter so you can use more of it. For 70-100% gray hair use 10 vol. (3%) or 20 vol. (6%) developer.
When using a fashion shade on gray hair, use with its matching natural shade of equal or lower level, e.g. if using 5 GD, mix with 5, if hair is fine, or with 5 NN if hair is coarse and resistant. 5 GD + 5 or 5 GD + 5 NN.

Method

Gray coverage of coarse resistant hair
- Use more color and reduce developer by 25% to get best results on very coarse gray hair, e.g. 2.0 fl. oz. of color + 1.5 fl. oz. of developer. (2.0 x .75 = 1.5)
- Pre-coloring. Choose the shade whether fashion or natural. Make the mix with 1.0 fl. oz. of color plus 0.34 fl. oz. of 20 vol. developer and use on gray hair. Process for 10 minutes without heat. Do not rinse. Then make the mixture, keeping in mind the level of gray coverage needed, and use. Wrap hair in plastic wrap (or use a plastic cap and thermal heat cap) and process with 122ºF heat for 15 minutes. Then stop the heat and use a fresh mix of the color on the mid-shaft and ends. Process for a further 25 minutes. Do not use heat on the mid-shaft and ends.
Men's hair
ONC artofcolor is ideal for coloring men’s hair. It does not contain any ammonia and resorcinol, and contains only a very low level of ppd. Because of this, and when used as below, color slowly fades from the hair over time, removing the demarcation line or extra darkness on the hair.
Main shades and ash shades give the best results when coloring men’s hair with ONC artofcolor. There is no need to use heat for men’s hair. Always make with developers of low volume (10 vol. or 5 vol.). Dilute 10 vol. developer with water to make 5 volume.
Ask the client whether he has any allergies. Do not use if there are any wounds or eczema on the skin. Shampoo residues of wax, spray or color sprays out of the hair before coloring.
To lessen unwanted reddish color showing in washed hair over time; make a mix with ONC artofcolor 4 AH, 5 AH and 6 AH and concentrated blue mix in small amounts and 10 vol. developer. Use this without heat, e.g. make a mix with 1.0 fl. oz. 4 AH, 1-2 drops of blue mix and 1.0 fl. oz. of 10 vol. developer. Use on the hair without using heat or covering with cap. Process for 20-30 minutes. For less gray coverage process for 10-20 minutes.
For complete gray coverage and a natural hair shade use main shades, which are 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, e.g. make a mix with 1.0 fl. oz. of ONC artofcolor 3, add 1-2 drops of blue mix and 1.0 fl. oz. of 10 vol. developer. Use on hair and process for 35 minutes without using heat.
Toner uses with ONC artofcolor
- Gloss, polishing and lustering are other names for toning
- Use toner to add color reflection, which can be light or intense to: virgin, colored, highlighted, and gray hair
- Use after highlighting. Toner adds warmth and shine, or to stop brassy or dull shades
- Make toner from regular color formulas by simply adding water
Pre-lightened hair
For hair lightened with BLONDEX (or other lightener), use a mix of 1.0 fl. oz. ONC artofcolor 8N, 0.34 fl. oz. of developer (20 vol.) and 1.4 fl. oz. of water. Add gold shades (GD) to enhance shine, or ash shades (AH) to stop warmth. Change the amount of water added and process between 1-15 minutes based on hair condition and desired result. After washing hair, towel dry, and use the mix on sections of pre-lightened hair with a tint brush. When the right tone is ready, rinse hair, use conditioner and leave on for 3 minutes. This seals the cuticle and locks in the color.
Virgin (unprocessed) hair
Virgin hair can fade because of factors such as over-exposure to sunlight and chlorine, as well as frequent use of heat styling / hot tools. In such circumstances, organic hair colors give results that are more natural. Choose natural color of hair from the color chart, shampoo hair gently and rinse. Towel dry, and then use the mix on the hair, e.g. 1.0 fl. oz. of 5 N + 0.34 fl. oz. of 20 vol. developer + 1.4 fl. oz. of water. It is important to keep the volume low, because if the oxygen level is high it upsets the natural quality of the results. Process between 5-15 minutes, depending on desired results. After processing, rinse well, and use conditioner. It is best to leave the conditioner on for 5 minutes to seal the cuticle and balance the pH.
Colored hair
Using ONC artofcolor as a toner on hair colored before is a great way to quickly and easily refresh the shine and condition of the clients’ hair. Choose the color from the color chart according to desired result. Shampoo hair gently and rinse. Towel dry and use the mix on the hair, e.g. 1.0 fl. oz. of 6 TO, 0.5 fl. oz. of 10 vol. developer and 0.5 fl. oz. of water (6 TO will give a warm, rich luster to the hair). Increasing the water level will lessen the intensity of the color.
Gray hair
When hair is nearly 100% gray use this service to reduce yellowing that happens with white hair. Do not use toner with oxidative hair color dye on this type of hair. Because the oxygen in oxidative color causes more yellowing as it reacts with the hair. Hair colors that only have direct pigments are better for this. If a client still wants this service, complete with the lightest ash colors and keep the volume very low, e.g. 1.0 fl. oz. of 10 AH color gel, a few drops of light extra ash, 0.17 fl. oz. of 10 vol. developer and 0.85 fl. oz. of water. First, shampoo hair gently, then rinse. Towel dry, and then use the mix on the hair. Process 1-10 minutes, then rinse. Use conditioner on the hair, leave for 5 minutes and rinse.

How to use BLONDEX
Mix 1 scoop of BLONDEX with 2 scoops of developer (1 oz. BLONDEX with 2 oz. 10 vol., 20 vol. or 30 vol.). Decide which volume to use by the darkness and density of hair. Do not use BLONDEX with 40 vol., especially on the scalp.
Highlighting and balayage on virgin hair
BLONDEX contains ammonia; so do not over prepare it. Use it in small amounts for best results, e.g. mix 1 scoop of BLONDEX and 2 scoops of 20 vol. developer. This will give the best result. There should not be any residuals of wax, spray and color sprays on the hair before BLONDEX services.
Highlighting and lightening on colored hair
Lightening is more difficult on hair that has been colored before. Use BLONDEX for lightening on whole hair or highlighting with foils. Mix BLONDEX according to the base color and health of the hair. Mix one scoop of BLONDEX and two scoops of 20 vol. or 30 vol. developer and use on dry hair with or without foils. Process 20-45 minutes to desired level of color. 1-2 levels of color lift on colored hair
When the tone is too dark on colored hair, it is possible to lift 1-2 levels of tone with BLONDEX without damage. First, gently shampoo hair and towel dry. Prepare special mixture with one scoop of BLONDEX, two scoops of 20 vol. developer, one scoop of hydrating shampoo, and 0.67 fl. oz. QUINOAPLEX in a bowl. Section hair, use the mixture and gently massage. Process for 30-40 minutes according to condition of hair and result desired. Rinse and lightly shampoo hair. Restore extremely damaged hair
To repair and reverse serious damage in over-processed and weak hair, make a mixture with 1 fl. oz. of QUINOAPLEX, 2 teaspoons of citric acid (can purchase online) and 1 fl. oz. of water. Use it on clean, towel-dried hair. Process for 15 minutes, then rinse and use conditioner. Process for 5 minutes and rinse. Complete three times a week to improve the general condition of hair.
Coloring / bleaching
Use at least two times before coloring or bleaching hair. Hair takes and holds color better. There is less damage from the color or bleach. Colors last longer. Quinoa reduces damage by up to 32%. Use regularly between shampoo and conditioner for visibly glossier more vibrant hair. Quinoa provides up to 51% shinier, smoother, stronger more manageable hair. Pre-coloring process at home
There are many amino acids in QUINOAPLEX If you use QUINOAPLEX as hair care one day before the coloring process, coloring results will be more long lasting and vibrant. In addition, if the pH level of hair decreases, hair will be more resilient. First, wash hair and towel dry. Spray QUINOAPLEX from roots to ends and process for 15 minutes. Then rinse and use conditioner. Process for 3 minutes and rinse.
Pre-coloring less damaged hair
Using QUINOAPLEX on less-damaged hair right before coloring creates a better-looking result by increasing the vitality of the color. First, shampoo hair gently, rinse and towel dry. Spray QUINOAPLEX from roots to ends, process for 15 minutes and rinse. Do not use conditioner. Dry hair completely before continuing the coloring process. This hair care service provides color pigments a stronger bond with hair.
Pre-coloring very damaged hair
First, use prepared hair color dye to roots normally, and then spray QUINOAPLEX to ends. Process for 10 minutes and blow-dry ends. After hair is dry, use newly prepared hair color dye to ends and process 15-25 minutes. Rinse and shampoo and condition hair as you would after ONC artofcolor service. In this service, clients can use QUINOAPLEX to rebuild hair with quinoa proteins and amino acids at home. Color result is more long lasting, bright and vibrant.
Before bleach
Use QUINOAPLEX the day before bleaching with lightener to make hair healthier. Use QUINOAPLEX from roots to ends, process for 15 minutes and rinse. Towel dry and use conditioner. Process for 5 minutes, rinse and blow dry. Hair is now stronger for bleaching.
With bleach
You can use QUINOAPLEX while lightening with bleach to protect the hair and scalp. For damaged hair, first spray QUINOAPLEX to the scalp and damaged parts of hair and process for 10 minutes. Do not rinse. Blow-dry hair, then use lightener mixture. To just provide scalp protection before lightening, spray on scalp before using lightener. There is no need to blow dry the roots before using bleach.
Adding 0.33 fl. oz. of QUINOAPLEX to one scoop of bleach and two scoops of developer provides 60% protection on hair and scalp.
For hair in better condition, add 0.27 fl. oz. of QUINOAPLEX to one scoop of lightening powder. There is no need to use QUINOAPLEX while lightening on healthy hair.
Before perming
To protect hair before perming process, use QUINOAPLEX by mixing half (1:1) with water and do not rinse. Make a mixture with 0.33 fl. oz. of QUINOAPLEX and 0.33 fl. oz. of water; use it on washed, clean hair. Then proceed with perm as usual.
Scalp care
- Section the hair. Spray on to roots. Wait 10 min. Rinse.
- QUINOAPLEX helps reduce oil at the roots and improves circulation to the hair follicle. Slows hair thinning for men and women. Hair looks and feels thicker and fuller
Oily scalp
Wash hair and towel dry. Section hair in to thin sections and spray QUINOAPLEX to roots. Do not massage, only spread with your fingertips. Process for 10 minutes, rinse and blow-dry with 122ºF heat. Use twice a week.
Fine hair
Use twice a week as hair care. It improves strength, creates volume and increases resistance. First wash hair, then towel dry. Spray QUINOAPLEX from roots to ends in sections and gently massage. Process for 15 minutes. Then rinse and dry hair. If you desire your hair to be softer, use conditioner after rinsing QUINOAPLEX and process for 3 minutes.
Volume for fine hair
Wash hair, spray 5-6 times with QUINOAPLEX to hair while it is still damp. Do not rinse. Blow-dry and style as usual. Do not spray too much, because it may increase weight. If it increases weight, dilute with water.
